13-Year-Old Arrested for Home Invasions Targeting Young Girls in Pontiac and Detroit
Authorities in Oakland County have arrested a 13-year-old boy suspected of committing a series of home invasions in Pontiac and Detroit, with the alleged intent of targeting young girls.
The teen is believed to be responsible for at least 11 successful or attempted break-ins—nine in Pontiac and two in Detroit—some dating back to 2022, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. In at least four incidents, the suspect was reportedly armed with a knife.
A Disturbing Pattern of Crime
"He was targeting the homes of young girls," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. "It's terrifying. Any adult would shudder at the thought, let alone a child."
According to police, the 13-year-old acted alone, gaining access to homes through unlocked windows. Just a day before the suspect's arrest, the sheriff's office issued a community warning urging residents to secure their homes.
Most Recent Incident: A Terrifying Encounter
The latest break-in occurred just after 4 a.m. on Tuesday in the 100 block of North Anderson Street near Michigan Avenue. Authorities report that the suspect, wearing a ski mask and armed with a knife, entered a home through an unlocked kitchen window and allegedly attempted to choke a 10-year-old girl as she slept. The child screamed, causing the suspect to flee. Thankfully, she was not physically harmed.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The suspect was taken into custody on Thursday evening, and police confirmed that his parent has been fully cooperating with the investigation. The teen is being held at Oakland County Children's Village while prosecutors review potential charges.
Sheriff Bouchard emphasized the importance of vigilance in preventing similar incidents: "Lock your doors and windows, talk to your children about safety, and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement."
