Adrian Rodriguez-Guillen, 41, was denied bail following his arrest on Jan. 3 in connection with the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Adriana Herrera and the wounding of his ex-wife. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Rodriguez-Guillen had been charged with open murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping, among 13 felony charges.
Police responded to a 911 call from Rodriguez-Guillen, who confessed to the shooting and remained at the scene until officers arrived. The victims, Herrera and Rodriguez-Guillen’s ex-wife, were found with gunshot wounds in a nearby vehicle. Herrera, who had been shot multiple times in the body and head, was pronounced dead at the scene. The ex-wife sustained a gunshot wound to her hip and was transported to a hospital, where she identified Rodriguez-Guillen as the shooter.
Court documents revealed a tumultuous history among the trio. Although Rodriguez-Guillen and his ex-wife divorced in 2013, they maintained a romantic relationship while raising seven children. About a year and a half ago, the ex-wife began a romantic relationship with Herrera, which was “on-again, off-again.” She permanently ended her relationship with Rodriguez-Guillen two months before the shooting, a breakup he reportedly struggled to accept.
Rodriguez-Guillen had allegedly made repeated threats against the couple in the months leading up to the tragedy, vowing to kill them. On the day of the shooting, police say he followed the women’s car through the Las Vegas Valley, eventually forcing it to stop. Exiting his vehicle armed with a rifle, Rodriguez-Guillen fired multiple rounds into Herrera’s car, fatally wounding her. When Herrera attempted to confront him, he allegedly shot her in the face.
The ex-wife told police she didn’t believe Rodriguez-Guillen intended to shoot her but rather targeted Herrera. After realizing he had struck his ex-wife, Rodriguez-Guillen reportedly apologized, lowered his weapon, and called 911.
He refused to answer police questions without legal counsel and remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 19.
