A disturbing case has emerged in Cary, North Carolina, as 40-year-old Travis Huff was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, Rebecca Carter, 41. According to the arrest warrant, during a 911 call—made by Huff, who had been dating Carter for about two years—he chillingly stated, "There's been a murder."

Authorities responded to a call at the apartment of Rebecca Carter, who also worked as a manager at the CubeSmart storage facility where she resided. The 911 dispatch was triggered by Huff's alarming report of the murder. Investigators allege that following a night out at a bar, an argument escalated into a violent confrontation. Huff reportedly lost control, strangling Carter with his bare hands and stabbing her at least twice in the chest.

After the fatal altercation, Huff claimed he left Carter's body concealed under a comforter in her apartment. He even admitted to inviting a friend to the scene and later disposing of evidence—changing his shirt and discarding items into a dumpster. Surveillance footage from neighboring businesses captured troubling moments from that night, including a woman's desperate cries for help, though the actual attack was not recorded.

When police arrived, Carter was found with a knife embedded in her chest, and Huff was still present at the scene. Initially, Huff denied involvement, claiming he had not seen Carter since the day before. However, after being shown video evidence of him with Carter that night, his story shifted, and he confessed to leaving her on a curb near the storage facility. His inconsistent accounts, combined with DNA evidence linking him to the scene, led to his arrest.

Huff now faces a charge of second-degree murder and remains in custody at Wake County Jail without bond. His court appearance is scheduled for March 12.

The case has shocked the local community, highlighting the devastating consequences of domestic violence. Authorities continue to investigate as they work to piece together the events that led to this tragic loss.
