The ex-wife of California addiction specialist Dr. Hamid Mirshojae has been charged in connection with his ambush-style murder, allegedly orchestrated for financial gain, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.

Ahang Mirshojae, 53, faces murder charges for the fatal shooting of her ex-husband, who was gunned down outside his office on August 23, 2024, in Woodland Hills, California.

Prosecutors allege the attack was carried out by Hardman, the alleged shooter, who waited for Dr. Mirshojae, 61, to leave his office around 5:30 p.m. before killing him as he approached his car. Sweeting, charged as an accessory after the fact, is accused of driving the gunman to and from the scene.

Prosecutors also revealed that Ahang Mirshojae previously hired Hardman and Jawed to assault the doctor on May 3, 2024, during which he was reportedly beaten with a blunt object, possibly a baseball bat.

The former couple had been embroiled in a decade-long legal battle over their divorce. Prosecutors allege that financial motives were behind the murder, though specific connections to the legal disputes have not been disclosed.

Dr. Mirshojae, who had remarried, was a well-known addiction medicine specialist with over 20 years of experience in emergency care and addiction treatment. He was renowned for helping celebrities, athletes, and others achieve sobriety.

Family and friends expressed shock over the revelations.

“Immediately, I start thinking about my nephews and nieces. Their father was killed, and now their mother was the cause. I still can’t digest it.

It’s beyond me,” said Dr. Mirshojae’s younger brother, Alireza Mirshojae, in an interview with KNBC.

Friends and former patients described Dr. Mirshojae as a compassionate and joyful presence in the community.

“Everyone in the Woodland Hills area, even in LA, they know him because he was a really good doctor,” said family friend Maryem Alaei to KTLA. “Always laughing, always joking, always helping people.”

Dr. Mirshojae, originally from Iran, dedicated decades to treating patients struggling with addiction. His biography highlights his work helping “thousands of patients achieve a sober life.”
