A disturbing case of child abuse has emerged in Tavares, Florida, where a mother and her male companion now face serious charges after a critically injured boy was left in the lurch at a hospital. On Saturday night around 10 p.m., 37-year-old Kimberley Mills and 36-year-old Andre Walker arrived at Advent Health Waterman Hospital. The boy, who was not breathing and showed signs of burns, bruises, and injuries at various stages of healing, required immediate emergency care. Mills was seen performing CPR on the child while Walker rushed inside to alert the staff.
Despite the boy's desperate condition, both adults left the hospital once they noticed that law enforcement was arriving. Mills returned shortly afterward with another child, but Walker never reappeared. Initially, Mills refused to divulge any information about Walker's whereabouts, but she eventually provided his name to the Department of Children and Families. This led authorities to issue an arrest warrant for him as an accessory after the fact to aggravated child abuse.
Detectives later searched Mills' home and uncovered crucial evidence that confirmed Walker's identity. He is still at large and is described as a slender man, approximately 5'6" tall, with dark facial hair, a mustache, and a gray beard. Authorities suspect he might be driving a silver 2022 Toyota Tacoma SR5 with the Florida license plate EQUU98.
Mills is now detained at Lake County Jail without bond, and the Department of Children and Families has taken custody of her other child. The injured boy remains in critical condition as investigators continue to piece together the events that led to this tragic case.
