Officers with the Winter Springs Police Department responded to a 911 call on June 5, 2024, in which the caller stated she had shot someone in the head. Upon arrival, authorities found 51-year-old Adel Tawfeek on the back porch with a fatal gunshot wound. His wife, 39-year-old Laurie Adams, surrendered without resistance.
During police questioning, Adams stated that she and Tawfeek had argued after he allegedly "threatened to hurt" their 8-year-old son, who has autism, for soiling himself. She claimed Tawfeek became aggressive, shoving her against a wall before stepping outside to the porch with a beer. Ten minutes later, Adams retrieved one of Tawfeekās firearms from inside the home and shot him in the head.
Investigators also discovered that Adams had sent a text message to her mother days before the incident, asking if she would take responsibility for her son "if anything were to happen."
On Thursday, Adams pleaded guilty to first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
