A tragic domestic violence case in San Antonio has led to a 45-year prison sentence for Martin Garcia, who fatally stabbed his ex-wife, Teresa Moreno Garcia, 95 times in a violent outburst. Despite their divorce, financial difficulties forced the couple to continue living together, until Teresa announced she had met someone new and planned to move out. This revelation sparked a rage in Garcia, resulting in the brutal attack on the night of December 5, 2023.
Authorities report that during a heated argument, Garcia strangled and repeatedly stabbed Teresa, leaving her lifeless in their home. When emergency services arrived, they found her body amid signs of a desperate struggle. Garcia, who also inflicted self-harm by cutting his wrist, was taken into custody after admitting his actions on the scene.
At the sentencing hearing, the court heard heartrending victim impact statements from Teresa's sons. One son tearfully explained that his mother felt trapped, unable to escape the cycle of abuse. At the same time, the other condemned Garcia's chilling declaration during past altercations: "If I can't have her, nobody can." Their emotional testimonies painted a picture of a loving woman who endured years of domestic violence, desperately trying to survive despite her circumstances.
Martin Garcia reached a plea deal by pleading no contest to one count of murder. Bexar County Criminal District Judge Ron Rangel sentenced him to 45 years, crediting him for 454 days already served. Despite Garcia's claim that he once loved Teresa, his actions have irreversibly shattered her life and left her family in deep sorrow.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Teresa Moreno Garcia died from multiple sharp-force injuries, marking her death as a homicide. As the community grapples with the devastating effects of domestic violence, this case stands as a somber reminder of the urgent need for intervention and support for those trapped in abusive relationships.
