Geneva, IL ā€” An Illinois man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after admitting to sexually assaulting and impregnating a woman with profound intellectual disabilities at a care facility in Geneva.

According to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, Isaiah Fields, 25, entered a guilty plea earlier this year and was formally sentenced on Friday. Fields was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault against a resident at Marklund Home, an assisted living facility that provides care for individuals with severe disabilities.

Authorities say that between August 1 and September 5, 2023, Fields repeatedly sexually assaulted the victim, a woman who, due to her severe or profound intellectual disability, was unable to provide consent. The abuse was uncovered months later when staff at Marklund Home discovered in April 2024 that the woman was pregnant and close to giving birth.

DNA testing later confirmed that Fields was the biological father of the child, directly linking him to the sexual assault. He was arrested and subsequently pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault in January 2025. By law, the charge carried a mandatory prison sentence ranging from six to 30 years without the possibility of probation.

In addition to the 25-year sentence for the assault on the Marklund Home resident, Fields was also sentenced to an additional one-year term for a separate criminal sexual abuse case. The sentences will be served consecutively, and Fields will receive credit for 308 days already spent in custody at the Kane County Jail. He is also required to register as a lifetime sexual offender.

Kane County Stateā€™s Attorney Jamie Mosser addressed the sentencing in a statement, emphasizing the seriousness of Fields' crimes. ā€œTodayā€™s sentencing holds Isaiah Fields accountable for his heinous actions and the profound harm he caused to a vulnerable individual who was unable to protect themselves,ā€ Mosser said. ā€œThe bravery of the victimā€™s caregivers, the diligent work of law enforcement, and my office's efforts ensured that justice was served.ā€

Mosser added, ā€œThis sentence reflects the gravity of his crime, and we remain committed to safeguarding the most vulnerable members of our community from exploitation and harm.ā€

The case has sparked renewed concerns over the safety and protection of individuals with disabilities in long-term care facilities. Marklund Home, where the victim resided, specializes in caring for people with complex intellectual and physical disabilities. Officials have not commented on any additional measures to prevent future incidents.

Fields will serve his sentence in an Illinois Department of Corrections facility, and upon release, he will remain under the restrictions of the sex offender registry for the remainder of his life.
