Jay-Z is taking an aggressive legal stance against attorney Tony Buzbee, alleging unethical practices in his firm's handling of potential lawsuits. In a federal court filing, Jay-Z's lawyer, Alex Spiro, claims Buzbee’s firm pressured a woman to make false allegations, potentially compromising legitimate victims’ cases.
Allegations Against Buzbee
According to a declaration filed Tuesday, Spiro’s associate revealed that a woman contacted their firm, Quinn Emanuel, with concerns about Buzbee's conduct. The woman had initially sought representation from Buzbee’s firm regarding allegations of sex trafficking and abuse. However, she made it clear her claims were unrelated to Sean "Diddy" Combs, despite Buzbee’s solicitation targeting potential victims of Diddy.
The woman alleges that Buzbee’s firm persisted in connecting her case to Diddy, asking her, “At what point did you meet Diddy?” She further claims she was urged to file a lawsuit anonymously and was discouraged from filing a criminal complaint.
The woman also shared that Buzbee’s team “directed and coached” her to fabricate allegations, including stating someone held her down and drugged her—details she insists were not part of her actual experience. When she refused to change her story, she claims Buzbee’s firm dropped her as a client.
Jay-Z’s Legal Team Responds
Spiro argues that the woman’s testimony highlights unethical practices that undermine legitimate victims. The woman reportedly contacted Spiro’s firm to expose Buzbee’s conduct anonymously, citing fears of retaliation.
Tony Buzbee’s Defense
In response, Tony Buzbee dismissed the claims as baseless.
“This is so ridiculous. If someone calls our intake and has a viable case that we believe has merit, we will pursue it,” Buzbee stated.
He added that his firm handles hundreds of cases unrelated to Diddy and denied any need to pressure potential clients. Without knowing the name of the woman in question, Buzbee said he couldn’t confirm the details of her allegations or interaction with his firm.
“We certainly don’t need to 'pressure' anyone to pursue a case,” he concluded.
What’s Next?
The allegations come as part of an ongoing legal battle involving high-profile figures, raising questions about ethical practices in soliciting clients for lawsuits.
