MIAMI, FLORIDA — A 29-year-old man is facing serious charges after authorities say he brutally stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death in her car while her 3-year-old daughter was nearby.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies began investigating the tragic case around 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, after a concerned grandmother flagged down a deputy near Southwest 144th Street and Southwest 134th Avenue. The woman alerted authorities after finding a small child wandering alone with dried blood on her face and clothing.
Deputies immediately searched for the girl's mother, leading them to a parked vehicle in the residential complex. Inside the car, they found 24-year-old Maria Camila Garcia-Molina unresponsive, hidden under a pile of blankets, suffering from multiple stab wounds to her neck, torso, and extremities. Paramedics were called to the scene, but Garcia-Molina was pronounced dead shortly after.
Through investigative efforts, deputies arrested 29-year-old Joy Chandra Nath on charges of second-degree murder and child abuse. According to an arrest report obtained by local outlets, deputies believe Garcia-Molina’s daughter was present at the time of the attack. The little girl reportedly told investigators that her mother had been "hit in the head" and was "sleeping." Authorities said the child did not appear to have sustained physical injuries.
Family members revealed that Nath was Garcia-Molina’s ex-boyfriend and that she had previously obtained a restraining order against him due to stalking concerns. Just one day before the fatal incident, there had reportedly been an altercation at a local mall involving Nath and Garcia-Molina’s current boyfriend.
Deputies located and arrested Nath early Sunday morning following a traffic stop. He allegedly had visible scratches on his face, arms, and neck. Investigators also found him in possession of Garcia-Molina’s belongings. Nath reportedly claimed he was returning her purse and cell phone and told officers that he, Garcia-Molina, and her daughter had gone out for breakfast earlier that day.
Records show Nath was already out on bond from a previous theft-related arrest last year. He remains held without bond at the Miami-Dade County Jail as authorities continue building their case.
The devastating loss of Maria Camila Garcia-Molina has left her family and the Miami community mourning another life taken too soon in a case marked by alleged domestic violence.
