Authorities have arrested a Detroit mother accused of fleeing the state after allegedly killing and burying her 9-year-old son. The woman, Brandee Pierce, 41, was taken into custody in Brookhaven, Georgia, after police discovered her 3-year-old son alone, unclothed, and locked inside a cold, filthy vehicle while she was donating plasma nearby.
Toddler Found in Freezing, Unsanitary Conditions
Pierce was arrested on December 20 after a concerned citizen alerted police about the unattended child. Officers arrived on Buford Highway near a Dollar General, where they found the toddler inside a locked, non-running car with temperatures in the low 40s.
A firefighter retrieved the child, who was cold to the touch but not in visible distress. He was found sitting in the driver's seat, playing with a phone. Officers also noted human feces in the back of the vehicle near a child's seat and a deflated air mattress between the front and back seats, highlighting the unsanitary and unsafe environment.
Arrest and Investigation Details
Police located Pierce inside the plasma donation facility after she returned to the vehicle and identified herself as the child's mother. She informed officers that she was homeless and living in a rental car. She also stated she had moved to Georgia for a fresh start just a month earlier, having previously lived in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Florida.
Authorities continue to investigate her involvement in the death of her 9-year-old son, whose remains were discovered in a backyard in Detroit.
