A North Carolina man, Tyrell Siermons, 30, has been arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of Heather Williams, a 25-year-old woman who went missing earlier this month. The Fayetteville Police Department confirmed the arrest, marking a tragic turn in the case.
Heather was last seen alive on January 4, captured on Ring camera footage leaving her home in a light-colored car. Tragically, her body was discovered on January 10 in a wooded area near Newark Avenue and State Avenue in Fayetteville.
Police worked closely with the department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team to apprehend Siermons, although they have released limited details about the ongoing investigation.
Heather’s sister, Mary Williams, has shed light on some of the circumstances leading up to the murder. Speaking to WRAL, she described contacting a number from Heather’s phone log. The person on the other end claimed to have met Heather through Facebook, either via Facebook Dating or Messenger, and admitted to spending time with her shortly before her disappearance.
“He said he met her on Facebook,” Mary explained. “He said he hung out with her one night, but he wasn’t sure if it was Saturday night.”
Heather faced significant challenges after surviving a car accident in 2015 that left her with cognitive impairments, a limited vocabulary, and a pronounced limp. Despite these difficulties, Mary described her sister as resilient and determined to live a normal life. “She worked really hard to do normal things that 25-year-olds do,” Mary shared.
Police had classified Heather as endangered due to her cognitive condition when she was first reported missing.
According to Mary, the person she contacted from Heather’s phone later admitted to picking her up on the night of her disappearance. “It just makes me angry,” Mary said. “You’d like to think people wouldn’t do something like this.”
Siermons is currently being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center. The Fayetteville Police Department emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
