North Carolina Realtor’s Shocking Triple Homicide Leaves Community in Shock

Authorities in North Carolina are investigating a chilling crime spree involving a local realtor who allegedly murdered three people across multiple locations without any known connection to his victims. Pitt County Sheriff Paula Dance detailed the incident during a press conference describing it as a “moving crime scene” spanning five or six locations in Greenville, approximately 85 miles west of Raleigh.

The suspect, David Lever, 55, faces three counts of murder and potentially additional charges as the investigation unfolds.

Timeline of Events

Sheriff Dance outlined the sequence of events, which began around 1:20 p.m. Friday:

  • The First Victim: Enrique Reyes, 64, was shot in the driveway of his home after returning from grocery shopping. Surveillance footage captured Lever walking to and from Reyes’ house. The two men appeared to have no connection beyond being neighbors.

  • Shooting at a Gas Station: Lever then drove to a nearby gas station, where he allegedly began shooting from his van. No injuries were reported, but this was the first indication to authorities that something was amiss.

  • Peace Ridge Court Incident: Lever arrived at a home on Peace Ridge Court, knocking on the door. The residents, who did not recognize him, did not answer. Lever allegedly fired into another house on the same street before leaving.

  • Double Homicide: Lever’s spree continued at the home of Anthony Gribble, 80, and his wife, Paula Gribble, 76. Both were shot and killed. Investigators have yet to determine any connection between Lever and the Gribbles.

  • Stopped by the Gribbles’ Son: The Gribbles’ son, who was nearby, intervened and held Lever at gunpoint until deputies arrived and took him into custody.

Investigation and Evidence

Deputies discovered Reyes’ body around 3:35 p.m., thanks to a passerby who called 911. Lever’s home and van revealed a significant arsenal: over 50 firearms, loaded weapons, and ammunition. Sheriff Dance noted the scale of the investigation, with multiple crime scenes and the challenge of uncovering a motive for Lever’s actions.

“Had he not been caught at the home of the Gribbles, they do believe he would have gone on to kill more people,” Dance said.

Court Appearance and Community Reactions

During his first court appearance, Lever displayed erratic behavior, reportedly cursing at the judge. The outburst added another layer of confusion to his transformation from a well-regarded community member to a murder suspect. Lever, a partner at Lever & Russell Real Estate LLC, owned multiple properties in the Greenville area. His sudden descent into violence has left residents grappling for answers.

Lever remains in custody at the Pitt County Detention Center without bond. His case underscores the importance of community vigilance and raises pressing questions about what may have led to this deadly rampage.
