Tragic incident: Franklin Thompson, 64, from Sycamore Township, is accused of fatally shooting his 24-year-old daughter during an argument about smoking indoors.

Prosecutors in Ohio are reporting a tragic case where a father allegedly shot and killed his 24-year-old daughter during an argument about smoking inside the home. Franklin Thompson, 64, from Sycamore Township, reportedly showed "zero remorse" when questioned by police following the incident.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriffā€™s Office, the shooting occurred early Monday morning. Thompson was later found wandering a block away from his home with the weapon used in the crime still in his pocket. He is now facing a first-degree murder charge. The victim, Rebecca Thompson, was discovered by her 18-year-old sister with a fatal gunshot wound after Thompson allegedly fired several shots at her.

Thompson had recently undergone a brain operation that may have left him with lingering issues, though specifics about these issues remain unclear.

The argument between Thompson and his daughter, which reportedly took place around 1 a.m. Monday, revolved around smoking inside the house. It is still uncertain who was smoking at the time of the dispute. According to an arrest affidavit cited by Fox affiliate WXIX, Thompson admitted to shooting his daughter multiple times during a verbal exchange.

Thompson shared his home with his two daughters on 6th Street in Sycamore Township, a suburb of Cincinnati.

While Thompson has no significant criminal history, court records show minor traffic violations, a 2023 trespassing arrest at a Kroger grocery store, and a 2003 charge for stealing cable television. His ex-wife, who divorced him in 2016, reportedly accused him of abuse, but there were no related arrests for domestic violence.

On Tuesday, Thompson was ordered to be held on a $1 million bond as he awaits his next court appearance. A grand jury hearing is scheduled for February 6.
