A Northside Independent School District (NISD) teacher was arrested and released from jail after allegedly dropping a bag of methamphetamine in a hallway at Mary Hull Elementary School earlier this month.
Daniel Anthony Gonzalez, 38, a special education teacher, was arrested on December 6, 2024, and charged with felony drug possession and child endangerment, according to jail records.
The incident began when staff discovered a matchbox containing suspicious items in a school hallway. After reviewing surveillance footage, investigators observed Gonzalez dropping the matchbox while retrieving keys to unlock a classroom. He then entered the room without picking it up.
A subsequent investigation by NISD police revealed the matchbox contained a straw, a baggie, and a white crystal-like substance resembling methamphetamine. Further testing confirmed the substance was meth, authorities said.
An NISD spokesperson praised staff for acting quickly to report the item and for police responding promptly to determine its source.
Gonzalez was arrested on school grounds, booked into Bexar County Jail, and released on bond the following day. He has since been placed on administrative leave and submitted his resignation, effective December 20, 2024.
Gonzalez had been with NISD since 2012, initially hired as an Instructional Assistant before becoming a Special Education teacher at Mary Hull Elementary in 2013.
