
Bacliff, TXĀ ā A Texas teenager and her boyfriend are facing capital murder charges after authorities say they killed her grandmother before going on the run, triggering a nationwide search.
According to the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, 17-year-old Tara King and her 19-year-old boyfriend, Uriah Urick, are accused of fatally shooting 61-year-old Tammy King inside her home on 15th Street in the Bacliff area. Deputies discovered Tammy King's body on Thursday while conducting a welfare check after a concerned friend reported not hearing from her in days.
The case quickly escalated as authorities launched a large-scale search for the teenage couple. The sheriff's office issued a public plea on social media, sharing their photos and asking for help locating them. "At this time, we are following all leads and taking every necessary step to clarify this tragic incident," officials stated.
The search ended on Sunday when law enforcement officers tracked Tara King and Urick to Laredo, Texas. "The suspects were apprehended... following an intensive investigation and a multi-jurisdictional manhunt," the sheriffās office confirmed. Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the murder.
Tara King, identified as Tammy King's granddaughter by local ABC affiliate KTRK, is a student at Dickinson High School. Urick had reportedly lived with Tara and her grandmother in Bacliff before the crime. Photos obtained by local news outlets show the teenage couple posing together before the alleged killing.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive or an exact timeline of events. Still, they confirmed that Tammy King had not been heard from for about a week before deputies discovered her body.
