Harris County, Texas: Woman Arrested for Allegedly Killing Boyfriend in Jealous Rage
A Texas woman is facing murder charges after allegedly shooting her boyfriend multiple times in a jealous rage upon discovering text messages from another woman on his cellphone.
Tatyana Evans, 23, was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of 28-year-old Geovanni Montague, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Fatal Shooting Outside Houston Apartment Complex
Deputies responded to a distress call during the early hours of Feb. 9 in the 10700 block of Barely Lane, near Jones Road. When first responders arrived, they found Montague lying unresponsive in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described the couple's relationship as "volatile," and investigators believe jealousy may have been the motive for the shooting.
Montague lived with his mother at the Oak Grove apartment complex, just a short distance from where his body was found, according to KHOU.
A History of Domestic Turmoil
Court records indicate that Montague had previously reported violent incidents involving Evans. His mother confirmed that the relationship had been troubled, telling investigators that Evans had "previously caused serious injury" to her son. In December 2024, Montague filed a police report citing threats from Evans, but no charges were filed at the time.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured a vehicle matching Evans' car speeding away from the crime scene with its headlights off.
The Deadly Confrontation
According to investigators, Montague and Evans spent several hours together at his apartment on Feb. 8 before she left to return to her mother's home. Later, Montague called Evans to inform her that he had accidentally left his cell phone in her car.
While retrieving the phone, Evans allegedly discovered text messages from another woman, which reportedly led her to arm herself with a .45 caliber pistol and drive back to confront Montague.
During the confrontation, Evans claimed that Montague "grabbed her by her jacket," prompting her to shoot him 5-6 times before leaving him in the street and returning home.
A Veteran Facing Murder Charges
Evans, a decorated U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan, now faces a murder charge as the investigation continues.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are still piecing together the events leading up to the fatal shooting. Evans is currently being held in Harris County Jail, and prosecutors are expected to push for the maximum penalty.
