Twin Brothers Found Shot on Georgia Mountain: Family Rejects Murder-Suicide Theory

Twin brothers smile in their graduation gowns, holding diplomas, as their family seeks clarity on their recent tragic deaths on Bell Mountain, Georgia.

Lawrenceville, GA A grieving Georgia family is searching for answers after twin brothers, Qaadir and Naazir Lewis, both 19, were found shot to death atop Bell Mountain, nearly 90 miles from their Lawrenceville home. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has suggested the tragedy was a murder-suicide. But the Lewis family firmly rejects that theory, believing instead that something sinister happened to the inseparable young men.

On Friday, March 8, 2024, a hiker discovered the bodies of the twins at the summit of Bell Mountain, an area near the North Carolina border. Both teens suffered gunshot wounds. They were last seen the day before, having missed their scheduled 7 a.m. flight from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Boston, where they planned to visit friends.

The family says they were blindsided by the GBI's initial assessment. “We knew right away that wasn’t true,” their uncle, Rahim Brawner, told WXIA-TV. “They’re very protective of each other. They love each other. I couldn’t imagine them hurting each other because I’ve never even seen them argue, let alone fight.”

Their aunt, Yasmin Brawner, echoed those sentiments. “They had a huge support system,” she said. “If they were ever struggling, we would’ve known. To say they did this to each other? No. Something happened in those mountains, and we want answers.”

The twins’ plane tickets were reportedly found inside their wallets, still in their possession when their bodies were recovered. Family members are questioning how they ended up at Bell Mountain in the first place. “They don’t hike. They’ve never been out there. They don’t know anything about Hiawassee, Georgia. They had never even heard of Bell Mountain,” Rahim added.

According to the GBI, autopsies have been completed, but additional forensic tests are pending. Authorities have yet to release any new details about how the brothers traveled from the airport to Bell Mountain or whether any additional evidence suggests foul play beyond their working murder-suicide theory. They have not stated which brother they believe allegedly pulled the trigger.

For the Lewis family, these lingering uncertainties are deeply painful. The twins, described as inseparable best friends, had big plans for their future, including launching their own clothing line. “They had dreams,” Yasmin said. “They had plans. This doesn’t make sense.”

In the wake of their loss, Yasmin Brawner has started a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses for her nephews. “We need answers. We need justice,” she pleaded. “We won’t stop until we find out the truth.”

The GBI insists the investigation is ongoing and that no final ruling will be made until all forensic evidence is reviewed.

I'm with the family on this one I don't believe it was a murder-suicide either. The police needs to do their job and find out what really happened to these young men and give the family justice
