Group of Teen Girls Beat a Elderly Man Because They Were Bored

One of the assailants testified in court on Tuesday that a group of five girls in Washington, D.C. beat an elderly disabled man to death last year because they were “bored” and seeking entertainment. The girls, aged between 12 and 15, are accused of fatally attacking 64-year-old Reggie Brown in a random assault in the nation’s capital almost exactly one year ago.According to a news release from the Metropolitan Police Department, Fourth District officers responded to the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest, at around 12:54 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, following reports of a “man down.”

Upon reaching the location, the initial responders discovered an adult male, later identified as Brown, with injuries that were determined to be "indicative of an assault." Brown was declared deceased at the scene by medical staff.

An autopsy performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner concluded that Brown's death was a homicide, with the cause being blunt force trauma to the head.

In late March, a 12-year-old girl and two 13-year-old girls were arrested by investigators in relation to the attack. The names of these three minors, who are not being disclosed because of their young age, were charged with second-degree murder.

After a few months, investigators revealed that two additional minors were found to be connected to the deadly assault on Brown.

According to custody orders from the D.C. Superior Court, on July 18, 2024, law enforcement officers from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended a 13-year-old juvenile female and a 15-year-old juvenile female from Northwest, D.C. The police indicated in the statement that the juveniles were taken to the Homicide Branch and charged with Second Degree Murder.

Last week, the 15-year-old girl admitted guilt to a reduced charge of assault with a dangerous weapon and was then given a three-year sentence in a juvenile detention center. As per the agreement, she had to testify at the trial of two of her fellow defendants, as reported by local CBS affiliate WUSA.

According to the report, the 15-year-old informed the jury that after being at a skate park in Maryland, the five girls came back to her house. When they were searching for another activity, the young witness proposed that they should go out and "locate someone to assault."

When questioned about why she would propose such an idea, the teenager allegedly answered, "Because we were feeling bored."

As they walked along Georgia Avenue, the 15-year-old mentioned that the group encountered Brown, who was already under attack by an unidentified adult male in a blue coat. The man then turned his attention to the girls, as reported by the local NBC affiliate WRC.

According to reports, the 15-year-old testified that he pushed Mr. Brown to the ground and then approached them, questioning why he was assaulting him.

“What did he say?” prosecutors asked the teen.

“I don’t remember what he said,” she reportedly responded. “I asked if we could help. He said yes.”

During her testimony, the 15-year-old stated that she was unaware of the man's identity who was wearing a blue coat.

It was reported that one of the defendants filmed the assault on her mobile phone, capturing several girls stomping on Brown's head and hitting him with his own belt. After the attack, the girls were said to have celebrated.

If the two teenagers currently on trial are convicted, they could be sentenced to secure detention until they turn 21 years old.

On Tuesday, Judge Kendra Briggs of the D.C. Superior Court mentioned that aside from the 15-year-old girl, one of the two remaining juvenile defendants had also admitted guilt related to the deadly assault. However, the specific charge she pleaded guilty to was not immediately disclosed, as per WRC.
